Once we docked on Stewart Island, we stayed a night in a hostel then went on a 3 day trek through the Rakiura national park.  |

| We took a 200k shortcut instead of traveling on the main highways from Nelson to Christcurch. 100k's down the road it turned into gravel, and then a road closed sign. Not wanting to admit defeat, we pressed on. We drove up switchbacks and over streams, but after an hour we came off of the back to asphalt. |
